3 Easy Social Media Posts to Get Leads from Instagram

How can I use social media to generate leads in my local area?

First, add your location to each Instagram and Facebook post that you publish. Second, use hashtags that are specific to your geographic area. Type your city/state name into the Instagram search bar and note the results. Use a few hashtags that are highly popular (a million uses or more) and some that are less popular (a few hundred thousand uses or so). Add these to your hashtag sets.

While your posts will still be visible to Instagrammers worldwide, they’ll also be pinpointing your geographic location and make it easier for potential leads in your area to find and follow you.

Should I expect to get clients directly from social media?

No, you shouldn’t. However, you can reasonably expect to gain some leads. How you handle those leads is up to you. Ideally, you should be sending all leads to your website. (That is why your captions MUST include a call-to-action.) Once on your website, your leads should be able to easily book a discovery call with you and sign up for your email list.

However, you can’t just say, “Get on my mailing list.” You need to entice them with a freebie (lead magnet, branded magazine, quiz, whatever makes sense for your ideal client). Lastly – and most importantly, you need to send a mass email to those leads every month to remind them that you are still around. What to say in your email newsletter for the best ROI is a whole other beast of a topic. It is so beastly, in fact, that I created an entire membership around pre-written newsletters for home pros.

How do I speak directly to my ideal client on social media?

If you aren’t speaking directly to your ideal clients on Instagram, you are likely to have a heck of time gaining any traction. To quote Marie Forleo, “If you’re talking to everyone, you’re talking to no one.”

Writing captions that align with your ideal client is something that stumps a lot of business owners. Here’s an easier way to shift your mindset from writer’s block to pure verbosity: Imagine that every caption is a mini letter to your favorite client (someone you’ve already worked with or one that you hope to work with). Don’t try to write something that everyone could find relatable or interesting – that’s pretty much impossible! Be specific. If you need a real-life example, look at my social media captions on Instagram (@kate.the.socialite). I practice what I preach.

Do I need to use Instagram stories, IGTV, or reels?

If you enjoy using Instagram’s many and ever-growing features, have at it. If you prefer not to partake, don’t feel like you’re missing out on something big. Each time a new IG feature is released, everyone goes nuts for it, including the algorithm, but that excitement doesn’t last forever. The one thing Instagram has never modified is the standard post structure. That feature is here for the long haul and should be your main focus.

Should I post different things on Instagram vs. Facebook vs. LinkedIn?

Because Instagram and Facebook operate similarly, you can sensibly post the same content to both platforms. However, the hashtag sets I described earlier should only be used on Instagram. LinkedIn is a good place to share personal captions of a more professional nature, some of your best portfolio images, and your recent blog posts.

3 Easy Social Media Posts to Get Leads from Instagram

Your social media schedule should be far simpler than what you’ve been told. You only need to post three times per week, ensuring that you have one personal post and one portfolio/inspiration post, and one educational/tip post. Create a posting schedule that is easy to maintain, such as every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
