Ocean City’s Jon & Patty’s Opens New Boutique

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Jon & Patty’s Coffee Bar and Bistro needed to shift things around because of coronavirus restrictions. But something unique came from the changes: a new boutique.

The popular restaurant wanted to create outdoor seating. They asked the owners of the nearby storage unit if they could put tables in front of it. Then the owners of the unit said they could even use their office.

“The new owners of the storage unit wanted to do everything remotely, so they don’t need it,” said Jon & Patty’s co-owner Patty Talese.

That’s where Jon & Patty’s placed their new boutique. There you’ll find products such as artwork, candles, plants, coffee cups, t-shirts, sweatshirts and other products for Jon & Patty’s and Ocean City.

Talese and her four children are artists. Their new space only has a little more than 100 square feet, but that’s basically all they need. Now that they redid the floor and walls, it became an apt space for the new venture.

“It’s just enough for the products we have in there,” she said. “We’re just hoping that it grows into something where people will come in and get a little piece of Ocean City or Jon & Patty’s.”

COVID-19 continues to make things difficult for Ocean City businesses. But Talese feels confident about the coming months from an economic standpoint. Governor Phil Murphy recently allowed indoor dining at limited capacity to resume, and it seems more people are sticking around Ocean City than the usual September.

“I feel like this is going to be a nice offseason that people are here, and they’d rather be here than in a crowded city,” she said. “If you’re going to work remotely, why not work in a beautiful place like Ocean City?”
