The Hawk Eye
Saturday, Sept. 26, the USPS delivered to my mail slot a letter from Jane Doe. She resides at 123 Main St., Burlington, IA 52601.
Being a skeptic I took it outside to my front steps to open it. It contained a page and a half of diatribe about President Donald Trump and a short summary accusing me of being enamored with Trump, lacking concern for the general public, avoiding the issues, having no empathy for others, being a disgusting person who has a lack of moral fiber and unfortunately I offer the country nothing.
All this because I placed a Trump sign on my front lawn. Wow.
To this person I say, You are a coward. Your anonymous letter was full of debunked information, unproven information, lies and judgmental accusations towards me and especially President Trump.
For your information I am not a Republican. I choose to support the nominee that I feel will make my life more comfortable. Since you do not know me I can’t imagine how you would come to your conclusions about my character and personality.
I guess because I had the Trump sign in my front yard? Are you also the person who, while I was watching the Trump/Biden debate, took my sign from my yard? That makes you not only a coward but a thief. Stealing is against the law. So, does that act make you or whoever took the sign a better person than me? No.
I am not an unfortunate mess, as you state in your letter. I am a citizen who has the same rights as everyone else to voice my opinion and display signs in my own yard. I did not break the law. You did. I honestly hope someone has a camera on their house and gets you on video. You are a sneaky coward.
By now most voters have made up their mind as to who they will vote for. Taking signs and writing anonymous letters will not change minds, at least not mine. I will vote for who I want regardless of what anyone may think or say to me. Words are just words.
